The Met Gala 2025 featured not just glamourous appearances by Indian celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Shah Rukh Khan, Kiara Advani, Diljit Dosanjh, and Isha Ambani, but also a remarkable contribution from an Indian design label — Neytt Crafts from Alleppey, Kerala. The brand provided the base carpet for the event’s spectacular blue carpet, which served as the regal backdrop for the evening’s fashion spectacle.
The carpet stood out with its deep royal blue tone and elegant golden daffodil motifs. While the Met Gala design team was responsible for the final artwork, the foundational white rug was produced and shipped by Neytt. “As much as we appreciate the love we’re receiving, we don’t want to take credit for the design,” the company humbly shared. “The rug we provided was a blank canvas, which was then hand-painted by the Met team.” This marks the third time Neytt has had its carpets featured at the Met Gala, further establishing its place on the global luxury design map.
Social Media Applauds Kerala’s Craftsmanship
Neytt, also known as Neytt by Extraweave, took to Instagram on May 6 to share a behind-the-scenes video showcasing the labor-intensive process behind the making of this year’s carpet. The video, which highlighted the craftsmanship and dedication of the artisans involved, received praise from across the world. The caption read: “No big deal — just our rug at The Met, again! We’re incredibly proud… A truly special moment for our country.”
Social media users flooded the brand’s post with admiration and gratitude. “You guys are doing Kerala so, so proud,” commented one user. Another wrote, “Thanks for showing us how this magic happens.” On X (formerly Twitter), viewers described the carpet as “absolutely fabulous” and even hailed it as “the best-dressed thing so far” at the event. This overwhelming response reflects the growing global appreciation for Indian craftsmanship and sustainable design.
Neytt Crafts: A Legacy of Sustainable Weaving
Neytt by Extraweave is no stranger to international recognition. Founded by Sivan Santhosh and his wife, Nimisha, the brand is part of a family legacy that spans over a century. “Our parent company was founded by my grandfather in 1917,” Santhosh said in a previous interview with Vogue India. Extraweave, launched in 2000, has worked with global names like Ralph Lauren Home, IKEA, and even supplied rugs to the White House.
Their road to the Met Gala began with a collaboration with U.S.-based firm Fibre Works, which facilitated the connection with the Met team. In 2023, Neytt Crafts delivered 58 large rug rolls, covering nearly 7,000 square meters, crafted from sustainable sisal fiber. The 2025 carpet continues this legacy of innovation, eco-conscious design, and excellence in artisanal weaving.
With this third successful showcase at the Met Gala, Neytt Crafts not only brings Kerala’s weaving tradition to a global platform but also solidifies its role as a torchbearer for India’s sustainable luxury design movement.
