Meta is introducing paid subscription plans for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, marking a major shift in the company’s business model as it seeks revenue beyond digital advertising through premium features and AI services.

The company announced new “Plus” subscription tiers for its social media apps and additional Meta One AI and business-focused plans. The Meta paid subscriptions are launching globally, including in India, though local pricing has not yet been disclosed

Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus are priced at $3.99 per month, while WhatsApp Plus will cost $2.99 monthly. Meta said the subscriptions will offer exclusive customization tools, visibility features, and messaging enhancements unavailable to free users.

Instagram Plus Adds Visibility and Customization Tools

According to a report by TechCrunch, Instagram Plus users will gain access to advanced Story features, including viewer search tools, anonymous Story previews, and unlimited audience lists beyond the current Close Friends option.

Subscribers will also be able to extend Stories beyond the standard 24-hour limit and spotlight one Story each week for additional reach. Meta is also adding cosmetic upgrades such as animated “Super Heart” reactions, custom fonts, profile pins, and app icons.

“More fun features” are expected in future updates, Naomi Gleit, Meta’s head of product, said in an announcement posted on Instagram.

Meta clarified that the new subscriptions are separate from Meta Verified, the company’s paid identity verification service launched earlier.

WhatsApp and Meta AI Plans Target Power Users

WhatsApp Plus focuses on messaging personalization, offering premium stickers, custom themes, unique ringtones, and additional pinned chats. The platform will also introduce advanced chat organization and customization tools for subscribers.

Meta simultaneously unveiled new Meta One AI subscription plans designed for users of its artificial intelligence tools. Meta One Plus will cost $7.99 per month, while Meta One Premium is priced at $19.99 monthly.

The AI Meta paid subscriptions are initially launching in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia, with additional markets expected later. Meta said free AI access will remain available, but users generating large volumes of images, videos, or long-form AI responses may face usage limits unless they subscribe.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Helen Ma, Meta’s head of subscriptions, said the company wants premium services to work across its broader app ecosystem.

Industry analysts say the move reflects growing pressure on technology companies to recover rising infrastructure costs tied to artificial intelligence development while reducing dependence on advertising revenue.

Creator and Business Plans Expand Support Services

Meta also introduced updated subscription plans for creators and businesses. Meta One Essential will cost $14.99 per month, while Meta One Advanced is priced at $49.99 monthly.

The Essential tier includes account verification, impersonation protection, and enhanced profile links for creators promoting content across multiple platforms.

The Advanced plan targets influencers and businesses seeking greater reach and customer support. Features include priority placement in Facebook feeds and search results, advanced analytics tools, and support for accounts managed by multiple moderators.

One of the most significant additions is direct human customer support for Instagram and Facebook business accounts, a feature small businesses have requested for years.

Meta paid subscriptions also said creators will receive alerts when users repost their content without attribution, giving them more control over original material shared across the company’s platforms.

The company has not announced exact rollout timelines for all regions or disclosed subscriber targets for the new services.
