Indian Stock Market to Remain Closed for Three Days This Week

Indian Stock Market Holidays This Week: When the Market Will Be Closed | Business Viewpoint Magazine

The Indian stock market holidays between April 28 and May 4, 2025, will result in both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) remaining closed for trading. While the market is typically closed on public and national holidays, specific stock market holidays are scheduled separately, and trading will stop only on those particular days. This week, the closures include holidays for Labour Day and Maharashtra Day, which are significant events in India’s calendar.

Maharashtra Day and Weekend Closures

On May 1, 2025, the Indian stock market will remain closed in observance of Maharashtra Day, as part of the Indian stock market holidays. This holiday marks the creation of the state of Maharashtra in 1960, and since both the BSE and NSE are located in Mumbai, the market shuts down in observance of the occasion. Following Maharashtra Day, the stock market will also be closed on May 3 and May 4, as these dates fall on the weekend (Saturday and Sunday). Therefore, no trading will occur on these days, providing a break for investors and traders alike.

Stock Market Operations During Other Events

It is important to note that the Indian stock market will remain open on April 30, despite the celebration of Akshaya Tritiya. Akshaya Tritiya, a significant Hindu festival that celebrates prosperity and good fortune, does not lead to a market closure, as it is not one of the Indian stock market holidays. The term “Akshaya” refers to something eternal or never diminishing, and “Tritiya” represents the third lunar day in the Hindu calendar. Even though the festival is celebrated with much enthusiasm, it does not impact market operations, and the BSE and NSE will continue trading as usual on this day.
