Standard Chartered Global Business Services (GBS) has opened its largest global office hub at DLF Downtown, Tharamani, in Chennai’s IT corridor. The new facility, launched on Oct. 9, will accommodate more than 13,000 employees, making it the Bank’s biggest workspace worldwide. The move highlights India’s growing importance in Standard Chartered’s global operations and digital transformation efforts.

Focus on innovation and sustainability

The Chennai facility has been designed as a technology-driven and wellness-centric workspace that prioritizes innovation, collaboration, and employee well-being. Built with advanced sustainability measures, the office features smart water recycling systems, energy-efficient lighting, and interiors designed to maximize natural daylight. It is aligned with both LEED and WELL certification standards, reinforcing the Bank’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

“This office is a reflection of our confidence in India’s innovation and opportunity,” said Noelle Eder, Group Head, Technology & Operations. “It’s a space that brings our people together to drive digital transformation and deliver client-focused excellence.”

Shelley Boland, Global Head, Corporate Real Estate & Services, said the facility represents more than just a workplace. “We see the workplace as a catalyst for growth. This new hub embodies our vision of holistic workspaces that empower collaboration, innovation, and personal well-being,” she said.

Designed for the future of work

Located strategically at the gateway to Chennai’s technology district, the office offers modern, digitally enabled zones with automation and smart design elements to support hybrid and agile work models. Key features include a multi-level atrium, ergonomic workstations, fitness and wellness zones, and an in-house medical center.

The building’s sustainable infrastructure focuses on optimizing resources and reducing its environmental footprint. Smart systems help recycle water and manage energy efficiently, while open, naturally lit spaces promote a healthier and more productive work environment.

As Standard Chartered strengthens its position as a future-ready global bank, the Chennai office is expected to serve as a model for the future of work — blending technology, sustainability, and human-centered design. The hub will act as a central point for the Bank’s global operations, reinforcing its long-term investment in India’s talent ecosystem and its commitment to fostering innovation within the financial services sector.
