Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launches statewide development projects on Wednesday, including a ₹5,300 crore investment agreement with tyre maker MRF, aiming to boost industrial growth, infrastructure and employment across the state.
Stalin Signs Major Industrial MoU With MRF
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched a statewide development drive on Wednesday, inaugurating projects and laying foundation stones worth several thousand crores through videoconferencing from the Secretariat in Chennai.
A key highlight is the signing of a memorandum of understanding with MRF Ltd. to build a new tyre manufacturing plant at the SIPCOT–Iluppaikudi Industrial Park in Sivaganga district.
According to an official statement, the project involves an investment of ₹5,300 crore over the next 12 years and is expected to generate about 1,000 jobs.
“This investment strengthens Tamil Nadu’s position as a leading industrial hub and will create significant employment opportunities,” the state government said in a release.
Alongside the agreement, Stalin launched the Tamil Nadu Shipbuilding Policy 2026, designed to position the state as a global centre for sustainable shipbuilding, repair and maritime research.
Officials say the policy aims to attract new investments, expand coastal infrastructure and encourage technological innovation in the shipbuilding sector.
Government Unveils Infrastructure And Civic Projects
The chief minister also inaugurated 229 completed projects under the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, valued at ₹2,732.77 crore.
In addition, he laid foundation stones for 19 new schemes worth ₹655.36 crore. Several of the initiatives focus on improving drinking water supply systems across districts.
The government also launches “Punal 1916,” an integrated grievance redressal centre for drinking water complaints.
The development drive includes education infrastructure as well. Stalin opens the Muthamilaringnar Kalaignar Arangam auditorium at Presidency College in Chennai.
Built at a cost of ₹63 crore, the air-conditioned auditorium has a seating capacity of 2,042 people and will host academic and cultural events.
Under the state’s “World in Your Hands” program, laptops are also distributed to students to support digital learning.
Policies Aim To Boost Environment, Safety And Welfare
Environmental initiatives form another part of the statewide program.
M.K. Stalin lays the foundation stone for a ₹37.85 crore Eco Park in Guindy and inaugurates a 30-meter-high Super Tree Tower at Kalaignar Centenary Park, built at a cost of ₹11.84 crore.
The government also released the Tamil Nadu Agro-Forestry Policy 2026, which aims to increase forest cover in the state to 33 per cent while improving farmers’ incomes through sustainable tree-based agriculture.
Public safety infrastructure receives a boost with the inauguration of police buildings worth ₹75.80 crore and 22 smart classrooms for training centres.
The chief minister also hands over 2,138 flats built by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board for police personnel.
Sports development projects are included as well, with 14 new buildings worth ₹42.94 crore inaugurated and foundation stones laid for three additional projects valued at ₹37.84 crore.
These include a sailing academy and an Olympic-standard swimming pool planned in Chennai.
In the social welfare sector, Stalin opened two “Thozhi” hostels for working women in Sivaganga and Theni districts, built at a cost of ₹10.38 crore, along with a ₹7 crore government children’s home in Thattaparai.
He also inaugurated several revenue department buildings costing ₹16.20 crore.
Separately, the chief minister renamed the Loop Road in Teynampet as Chinthanaichirpi Singaravelar Salai in honour of freedom fighter Singaravelar.
