In a significant move to strengthen India’s agricultural sector, the central government is preparing to release the PM-KISAN 20th Installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme in June 2025. The Ministry of Agriculture has earmarked Rs 22,000 crore for direct transfer to the bank accounts of over 9 crore registered farmers, providing much-needed financial support just ahead of the crucial Kharif sowing season.
Although the government has not officially announced the exact date, sources indicate that the funds will likely be credited during the first or second week of June. The installment amount of ₹2,000 per eligible farmer is a part of the annual ₹6,000 provided in three equal parts under the scheme.
Launched in February 2019, PM-KISAN now reaching its PM-KISAN 20th Installment, is one of the largest direct benefit transfer (DBT) programmes globally. It aims to provide income support to small and marginal farmers, ensuring timely assistance for agricultural investments and daily needs. Since its launch, the scheme has disbursed over ₹3 lakh crore, reinforcing the government’s continued commitment to rural welfare.
Previous Disbursements and Scheme Benefits
The PM-KISAN 19th installment was rolled out on February 24, 2025, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally disbursed ₹22,000 crore to nearly 9.8 crore farmers during an event in Bhagalpur, Bihar. The upcoming 20th phase is expected to match this distribution in both scale and impact.
With the onset of the monsoon approaching, the timing of this financial support is especially important. Farmers are expected to utilize the funds for purchasing vital agricultural inputs such as fertilizers, seeds, and equipment, aiding in smooth preparation for the Kharif crop cycle.
The scheme continues to stand out for its transparency and efficiency, with all payments transferred directly into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. This eliminates the scope for intermediaries and ensures that the support reaches the intended beneficiaries in full.
Steps to Ensure Timely Payment and How to Check Status
To receive the PM-KISAN 20th installment without delays, farmers must complete certain verification procedures:
- e-KYC Update: Completing Electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) is mandatory. Farmers can do this via the official PM-KISAN portal using their Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
- Aadhaar-Bank Linking: The beneficiary’s bank account must be linked to their Aadhaar number. Any inconsistencies could result in payment failures.
- Check Beneficiary Status: Farmers can check their payment status online by visiting pmkisan.gov.in, clicking on the “Beneficiary Status” under the “Farmers Corner,” and entering the necessary credentials.
Additionally, those facing technical issues can visit their nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) or approach the local agriculture office for help.
As the PM-KISAN 20th Installment nears, timely compliance with KYC norms and Aadhaar-bank linkage remains vital. The central government has reiterated its dedication to enhancing the scheme’s inclusivity and efficiency with every installment. With over 9 crore farmers expected to benefit, this move continues to serve as a lifeline for India’s rural economy, ensuring that the nation’s food producers receive steady and reliable support.
